The Week Ahead: 27th - 31st July 2026
In Focus: Largest Earnings Week, FED Decision
Trading Services I Use:
StockAnalysis.com - I’ve been using Stock Analysis as an affordable but reliable method of looking at New and Upcoming IPOs, Earnings Calendars and most notably KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). Stock Analysis allows you to view the KPIs for many companies with up to date metrics and segments that you can cross reference against Earnings Results. This is incredibly important when understanding what metrics move a stock. At $65 per year it’s a no brainer. They’ve given me a discount code if you use STOCKSINPLAY they will give you another 10% Off.
Situational Awareness:
Market Condition: Bearish
Commentary: This is the biggest earnings week by volume of stocks reporting. We also have some major market movers reporting. Unfortunately the market conditions have basically nerfed this earnings season so far. The QQQ is performing the worst and it’s below all major moving averages and on Friday threatened a proper breakdown out of it’s 3 month range. The SPY and DIA are performing marginally better but still under pressure. We are however still well able to just bounce here and continue the chop. Either way I’d be in no rush to press the accelerator. In an ideal scenario we’d get some sort of panic event that causes a proper fear sell off…but that’s the dream. We don’t always get what we want.
We also have the VIX, 10Y, DXY and CL very strong which isn’t good for stocks.
I have no expectations this week only to monitor earnings, go through my process and be ready for opportunity if the market can stabilize. I am however leaning more bearish now and will make a bigger effort to monitor short catalysts for follow through. Shorts are something I’ve been doing a lot more work on in recent times but they behave differently and day one requires more of a day trade element in my opinion vs. how long catalysts act in a good market. That being said they can be very profitable.
MSFT, META, AAPL, AMZN are the big hitters this week followed by ARM, HOOD, STX and the two big Oilers XOM and CVX. As always I’ve highlighted the best charts and stocks of note below. There are far more stocks reporting this week, too many to mention. I think it’s beneficial to not get stuck in the weeds too much right now.
On a macro front we have a big week also. The highlight being the FED Rate decision on Wednesday at 2pm ET. US PCE for June on Thursday at 8:30am is also important.
For me the focus this week is sticking to process and using the spare time (that is likely to be the case) to really refresh myself on what a good setup looks like. Looking at average charts for too long can blur the senses. Going back through your chart books regularly is very important to focus in on the fact that when something is top quality it stands out like a sore thumb. Right now nothing is standing out like a sore thumb. If you don’t have a chart book….well now is a good time!
Have a great week!
