Today’s Picks
There are some Biotech catalysts today that I’m watching but there’s something about them that doesn’t have me massively excited. COGT - Big catalyst positive Phase III data however I traded a beautiful move in this in July with a catalyst. Back then it had a nice tight pattern and was not fully appreciated by the market. This morning it’s going to open at a $4b market cap. It may work, but I think there is going to be a lot of profit taking happening here. IFRX is another one with a positive Phase 2 readout. It also had an interesting Analyst PT raise to $22 from $10 (the stock closed Friday @ $1.23!) from Guggenheim. We’ve also had Martin Shkreli tweeting about it this morning. This probably gives it more chance to pump but I certainly wouldn’t be jumping in just because he says so. Chart is neglected. I prefer this to COGT if it can get going.
Finally we have GLTO which is likely a one day wonder (as it has been previously). They have completed a big acquisition. The catalyst I see here is the sheer size of the oversubscribed $285M private investment led by Fairmount and top-tier institutional investors (RA Capital, Viking Global, Wellington, a16z Bio + Health). This stock has moved 700%+ in one day before so it’s certainly capable. I’m likely going to look at this for a Day Trade (chart is bad) and IFRX.
On a day like today I’m not 100% sure especially with the market gapping up so much so I’m trying to give some insight into my thinking here.
X-Ray COGT: Industry Group: Biotechnology, Market Cap: 2.07B, Float: 112.56M Short Interest 14.46%, Days to Cover: 8.23, Exchange: NASDAQ
X-Ray IFRX: Industry Group: Biotechnology, Market Cap: 82.57M, Float: 62.81M Short Interest 2.46%, Days to Cover: 1.44, Exchange: NASDAQ
X-Ray GLTO: Industry Group: Biotechnology, Market Cap: 6.57M, Float: 1.29M Short Interest 6.91%, Days to Cover: 0.04, Exchange: NASDAQ
Market Awareness
Huge Gap up on the Market. Some profit taking from Friday is likely to occur and I’ll be surprised if we don’t see some sort of fade early on. The stocks I’m focusing on today happen to be biotechs so they won’t be as effected by market moves but I am still cautious of any rug pull.
I will be peeling some swings I took on Friday and remain cautious. This market will suit a different style. I will wait for big catalysts to occur that fit my setup. Until then I’ll leave others be more active. I am most interested to see where last weeks names end the day - DDOG, FROG, FSLY, TWLO, LMND. Observing these this week will give us an idea if follow through is back on the cards for earnings plays or not.

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
