Honorable Mention to:
BTU - This was a SIP a while back on the news that it was looking to terminate an unpopular acquisition of MAC. Today they have notified the company of their intention to do this citing a fire damaged mine as the cause. 13% Short Interest, 4 Days to Cover. Decent short base and flat consolidation. This could pivot here. 200 Day MA is far away at $20.
NFLX/WBD (Short) - Trump last night announced 100% Tariff on Foreign Movies. As with all the tariffs this is extreme and will likely create a shock for the industry. I haven’t really found any beneficiaries to this to trade. Mostly negative. Here is a full Movie Tariff Watchlist I put together.
I’m looking mainly to watch for a bounce point myself but I think shorting may also work.
Market Awareness
Gapping down this morning, not a shock and not a bad thing either in my opinion. A two to three day pullback into FOMC would be very helpful but I think we will probably still see the dip being bought this morning. I am seeing headlines about Semiconductor Tariff’s being announced today though so that may very well dampen everyone’s spirits!
Watching the VIX for any notable spike. As always I am in no rush on a Monday morning to dive in head first. So far I’m seeing very little individual stock news of note. Mainly low priced stocks popping. Bessent at 11am EST may turn the market positive around that time lets see.
Patience this morning. Keep the mental stamina for some big trader earnings this evening - PLTR, HIMS most notable.

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
