1) Applied Optoelectronics (AAOI) (Rating: B+, Multi-Day)
Industry Group: Communication Equipment, Market Cap: 916.19M, Float: 51.66M Short Interest 21.14%, Days to Cover: 2.75, Exchange: NASDAQ
Catalyst: AAOI announced first volume shipments to major Hyperscaler Data Center customer (likely Amazon, Google or Microsoft). If the market is conducive today I think this is a solid Stock in Play. Meaningful short interest and a history of volatile moves in this name. The chart is looking quite nice also. The negative on this is the market pulling back which could cause a fade.
Honorable Mention to:
BA - As grim as it may be to profit off of a sad incident like a plan crash, such is the way of the markets. BA is down after an Air India crash at takeoff using a Boeing 787. I think this can be played both as a long and a short. Personally I’ll be looking for a potential bounce we have some key levels around $196 and then lower down at $188.
Industry Group: Aerospace & Defense, Market Cap: 161.36B, Float: 752.93M Short Interest 2.12%, Days to Cover: 1.77, Exchange: NYSE
VOYG - IPO’d yesterday. In case you haven’t noticed Fresh IPOs are a theme right now. I’m watching this closely for a potential run today. Strong sector theme also - Aerospace & Defense : Space Stations
Industry Group: Aerospace & Defense, Market Cap: 3.11B, Float: 12.4m Short Interest -, Days to Cover: -, Exchange: NYSE
ORCL - Stellar earnings, Beat on Revs and EPS, massive numbers on KPIs - RPOs up 41% YoY, IaaS Revs accelerating 52% YoY. Negative is the CAPEX spend but company is adamant this is due to constraints. Very bullish commentary by management and a slew of upgrades today. Has run a lot into earnings but certainly going on my delayed reaction watch list.
Market Awareness
Market looks a bit heavy with some leading names rolling over in the short term. VIX perking up yesterday and lots of macro tensions going on. I would guess there are many excuses to sell off here but mainly the wild run we’ve had since April lows. A small breather would be more than welcome. Watching VIX and playing conservatively here as we are not getting huge amounts of follow through right now. Overall though I’m bullish and expect the bullish trend to continue in the medium term. I would be very happy with any type of shake out here in the market.

PS: There are many ways to trade stocks in play. It does not have to be the one that keeps going straight up and sometimes it doesn’t even have to be day one of the catalyst. Everyone must find a setup, timeframe and method that works for them. This list is supposed to educate on the criteria I use and the methods in which I find Stocks in Play. Yours may differ and that is completely okay.
